The GDST Initiative
what is The
GDST Initiative?
GDST stands for Go Do Something Today. It may sound simple, or even silly, but these four letters have made a profound impact on my life.
For me, GDST serves as a reminder to do something today (and every day) to support my physical and mental health. There will always be days where life gets hectic, where sleep is low and stress is high, where the world seems crushing and overwhelming. GDST is my mantra, a message from my inner voice telling me to take time for myself and support my health. And it can be for you, too.
Here’s how you can implement GDST into your life.
Assuming you’re awake for 16 hours, there are roughly 1000 minutes in a day.
My challenge for you is to intentionally set aside at least 5 minutes a day to support your health.
5 minutes minimum. That’s 0.005% of your waking day—virtually nothing!
What you do with that time is up to you. It could be something as simple as doing some deep breathing and meditation if that’s what you feel you need. It could be getting up from your desk and taking a lap around the house or block. Or it could be getting to the gym and crushing through a tough workout to clear your mind and break a sweat after a stressful day at work.
There is no right or wrong way to GDST, as long as you can honestly say that what you are doing with that 5+ minutes will positively impact your mental or physical health.
In the midst of a busy day, the last thing you may feel like doing is being active or taking some precious time for yourself when you have responsibilities and urgent deadlines to meet. But I promise you that over time, your consistency with valuing your health daily will compound into a priceless habit. You’ll thank yourself later. Take my word for it.
Try it and feel the benefits yourself.
What are you going to do today?
