writing 100 articles in 100 weekdays
When was the last time you tried something new?
When was the last time you COMMITTED to DOING something for longer than a few days?
I recently started reading Tiny Experiments by Anne-Laure Le Cunff. It’s phenomenal already, and one of the best books I’ve read in a while.
Early on in the book, she asks 2 thought-provoking questions:
“What experiment could I run on my own life that would bring me an intrinsic sense of fulfillment, whatever the outcome?”
“How can you transform your life into a giant laboratory—a playground where doubt is a source of inspiration and experimentation?”
One of Le Cunff’s first experiments in her own life was writing 100 articles in 100 work days—it was a way for her to follow her curiosity and love of writing. There was no end goal—she just made a pact with herself to commit to showing up and delivering the OUTPUT of writing an article a day. Eventually it turned into something much bigger, but it started as just a curious experiment.
That’s beautiful.
Everything in our lives and our society is so goal-oriented. When was the last time you did something just for the sake of CURIOSITY, of interest, just to try something new, with no outcome you were shooting for?
Been a long ass time for me.
There are endless ways you could design experiments in your own life, but I actually loved this specific idea of writing for 100 days so much that I’ve decided to commit to it myself.
I love writing. I have ever since I was 5 years old and started writing short stories with markers on stapled stacks of printer paper. It’s just not something I ever saw being very relevant to my life goals as I found my career path in fitness and physical therapy. So I let it fall by the wayside. And in doing so, I let a part of myself fall by the wayside—I just didn’t realize it until I started reading the book.
So here’s the start of a new experiment for me. I’m going to write an article or post of some kind, and publish it here on my website, every work day for the next 100 weekdays. I have no idea what’s going to happen. No outcome in mind. And I want it that way. Maybe a few people will read this. Maybe no one will. Either way, it doesn’t matter! The focus, for me, is going to be on simply putting in time every day to write, and letting my own curiosity be the compass.
Let’s go!
